The
London Borough of Newham includes much of the traditional East
End and has some of the highest density housing in the UK. Bordering
and incorporating some of the City of London, Newham runs along
the north bank of the Thames and has seen much re-development
in the last few years with many projects on-going.
The forthcoming developments for the 2012 Olympics offer real opportunity for carfree developments on a significant scale.
A new low-car development
has been built at Burford Wharf on Cam Road near the High Street. With a 40% parking ratio the site is also served by a new car club facility from Whizzgo launching by 27th November.

Stratford Station offers excellent transport links for tube, bus and rail with Eurostar services to be added soon.
Developed by Toynbee Housing Association, 241-263 High Street Stratford E15 is less than 5 minutes from Stratford Station.
Currently the Council are updating their policy and guidance for carfree and low car developments, Supplementary Planning Guidance on 'Reduced Car Parking in New Developments' is being drafted. This should clarify the situation for developers.
