The
Central London Borough of Wandsworth lies along the south bank
of the Thames and incorporates a wide range of housing much
of it high-density. It is home to many congested routes and
continuous pressure on parking provision.
Recently the borough has announced its first 'environmentally
friendly' shared ownership development which is set to open
in spring 2005.
The scheme has been designed with many environmentally friendly
features including an Erisco Bauder ‘green roof’
system. The roof will be constructed using low maintenance planting,
sedums, indigenous herbs and grasses. The car-free development
will include a secure cycle shed and offer facilities for home-working.

Recently there have been a number of new applications and planning permissions for carfree and lo-car developments. Among these is the proposed building of 108 apartments at The Phoenix a former Vauxhall car showroom on East Hill. The development is proposed to have extensive cycle storage as well as an on-site car club.
Among other developments is the Wandsworth Riverside Quarter. Highlighted in the Council's UDP and utilising Thames side land including the former gas works site, this development includes a proportion of carfree housing and is again a likely location for an on-site car club.
We will bring you more details on each of these exciting new projects as we get them.
