Interest in carfree (and low car)
developments (housing, office and mixed use) is increasing throughout
the UK. The number of car-free developments being constructed in London,
in particular, is increasing for a number of reasons, including:
- The community recognising the benefits to their quality of
life that arise from the use of alternative transport modes, and
from fewer cars in their local area;
- The drive to encourage use of alternative modes of transport,
such as cycling, walking, car clubs and public transport.
- Regional pressure for increased housing densities.
Car-free and low-car developments are viable in areas that are well
served by public transport and other infrastructure, providing residents
and businesses with practical alternatives to private car use. |
